Looks good. Why not get a matching pair of memory? Seeing as though you are going with a black and red colour scheme, the bright blue will ruin the aesthetics. Also, no HDD?

I'd save $500 and get R9 290X CF, but if you like nvidia it looks good :)

on a side note, good choice on the monitor! I couldn't love mine any more :D

I was planning to do black and blue, but brand loyalty to MSI drew me back to them and away from Gigabyte. I have a WD Green 3TB that my dad will probobly let me use.

290X in Crossfire under load use like, 700 watts. That's a little much.

Good to know the monitor is a good one!

4K G-Sync Monitor

As mentioned above though, if you are not in a rush then wait for the 300 series and maybe go with a Freesync Monitor instead.

no. just no.

He would actually be wasting money by going for a platform that doesn't improve performance when gaming.

couldn't have said it any better!

But think about this, a 4790K is a waste for $3000 as he can EASILY fit in an X99 rig and get much more performance and upgradeability options

For gaming X99 is a waste. You don't need a 6 core cpu. When the time comes that you do need a 6 core cpu then X99 will be old news.

True, but what about if he wants to record, livestream and video edit 4K footage of his gameplay? then he will need X99
