Is it possible to switch the operating system from a HDD to a SSD without actually reinstalling the operating system?

Yes it's by cloning the HDD to your SSD.

Make sure before you do this that in you BIOS the sata interface is set to AHCI, this will help with your SSD.

Linus doesnt recommend this option. (said it multiple times on WANshow). Mainly because Its a long process and u are better of doing fresh instal on your ssd.
