Noctua or Phanteks ?

JonD7

It's the last component I need for my rig and can't decide!

I know out of the box the D15 is better performance wise and the PH-TC14PE looks nicer but what about a fan change? Have any of you changed either coolers stock fans?

Another question... any suggestions for case lighting?

I find the be quiet! Dark Rock 3 to look a lot better than the two you are choosing between and also it is a lot more silent than those two. (also cheaper(?))

I don't think fan change really adds that much. I mean its nice, for sure. But if you really need the performance put the extra money in the cooler, not the fans.

Linus has a video on this, kinda not specific to coolers, but still relevant conclusion :)

Also, i didn't know about that cooler, it looks bad ass :P be adventurous go for the Phanteks! Give us a review :P So long as other don't say its poop. (no point in wasting money)

Lighting? depends on your colour scheme :P

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

Changing the stock fans on the NH-D15 is like buying a Ferrari and changing the engine it comes with.. The NH-D15 already has two of Noctua's high-end NF-A15 PWM fans on it.

The TC14PE is the better option if the special colors of the heatsink available is something that appeals to you. In terms of performance, stick with the NH-D15.

what if you change them for the industrial noctuas? then its like buying a ferrari with a V8 and slapping a V12 in there!

Except the industrial noctuas aren't wildly inefficient, don't have a lot of torque and are the same size as the regular noctuas.

I wouldn't buy either cooler and switch fans straight away, it would be somewhere down the line(much like overclocking, I'm not doing that this soon)

I like the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3, it's definitely the best looking cooler but you're stuck with Be Quiet fans as I don't think the mounting system will let you fit much else(Slick couldn't fit Noctua's on it)

I thought about slapping some Noctua industrial fans on the D15 and of course lowering the rpm but I don't think they fit?

Is MNPCTECH the only place to sell Dark Side LED strips?

Not really..

Putting Industrial Noctua fans on them will give nowhere near enough added performance to justify their costs.

Ideally you'd want the PWM versions of the NF-A14 IPPC's on them which cost between $26-$30 times two for a few degrees lower temps.

This is only when you're willing to run them at 2000 to 3000 RPM (depending on the model). At these RPM's they're loud.

There is also the problem of mounting holes. The NF-A15 has 120mm fan mounting holes while the NF-A14 has 140mm mounting holes.

So the included fan clips will be completely stretched out when used with NF-A14's. This not recommend for long term use.

The only thing you really gain by putting NF-A14 IPPC's on there is having black fans at the costs of $52 or more..

Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 is another cooler that comes with excellent fans included. :)

No, they won't fit. Different mounting holes among other things.

FrozenCPU sells the LED strips too. :) http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g6/c77/s2118/list/p1/Lighting-LED_Lighting-Darkside_Dimmable_LED_Strips_-Page1.html (scroll down a bit)

What about the Cryorig R1 Ultimate? It performs as well & sometimes better than the NH-D15 and doesn't look ugly xD
