Which hard drives for a RAID 10 array

I could either go with quad 4TB WD Blacks with 64MB Cache or 6TB 7200rpm seagate drives with 128MB cache. which one would you get?

Current Rig:   CPU: AMD 1950X @4Ghz. Cooler: Enermax Liqtech TR4 360. Motherboard:Asus Zenith Extreme. RAM: 8GB Crucial DDR4 3666. GPU: Reference GTX 970  SSD: 250GB Samsung 970 EVO.  HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB. Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro. PSU: Corsair RM1000X. OS: Windows 10 Pro UEFI mode  (installed on SSD)

Peripherals:  Display: Acer XB272 1080p 240Hz G Sync Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Brown Mouse: Logitech G502 RGB Headhet: Roccat XTD 5.1 analogue

Daily Devices:Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact and 128GB iPad Pro

Switch the blacks for reds, theyre cheaper and more reliable...

Are the 6TB seagate drives any good?

I'd go with the Red drives, Barnacules has had bad experiences with those Seagate drives dying in his NAS

Have a look at Seagate's NAS series, these should be more reliable and more optimised for NAS usage. Then get whichever is cheaper: quad 4TB WD Reds or 4TB Seagate NAS drives.

RAID is pretty redundant these days.

Hi there @asim1999!

 

The WD Black is a very good drive but it was designed mostly for gaming and other demanding apps. For a RAID – I would suggest WD Red which is specifically meant for RAID/NAS and have RAID specific built-in features (like TLER – helps the drive recover faster in case of read/write error and the drive doesn’t drop off the RAID, NASWare 3.0, low operating temperature and is designed for 24x7 environment).
