im trying to set a proxy up for 2 prgrams on my pc. how can i set a program to use a proxy. ive googed but couldnt find anything.

If you mean configure the programs to use a proxy, the software has to already support it so there should be a menu option.  A lot of software out there will respect the IE proxy settings in Windows or the system proxy settings on *nix so in those cases, you don't have to set it in the software.  Other than those two, there's nothing you can do.  Unfortunately, I've found that there's a lot of software out there that is too stupid to work in an explicit proxy environment.  The only way those work with a proxy is with what is known in the industry as a transparent proxy.

If you need to force a program to use a proxy there are options you can explore but it would be much easier for you if the program supports it so look for that option first.
