Thoughts on smaller 1440p monitors

Scruffy90

How many of you guys would buy a 1440p monitor that is smaller than 27"? What are your thoughts on that?

If it's bigger than 25" and 1440p, sure. Anything smaller is rather useless for most people, assuming they just get 1080p instead. (My phone is 1440p, primary monitor is 1080p. :\)

I would defently buy a 25" 1440p monitor. Funny thing is I was looking at the U2515H earlier today.

The smaller screen size Increases the pixels per inch. Which makes the image sharper. So they are great. :D

24" 1080p - 105

27" 1440p - 109

25" 1440p - 128.3 (or something around there.)

Quote my post if you need me to respond.

It's funny that this was mentioned because the size difference isnt as drastic as it seems on paper. I noticed that when deciding whether to get a 24" or 27" monitor.

Screw that. 4K screens should be no larger than 17"

Really?? I get that that may have been the case when the size is going down, but when going up i would have thought there is an applicable difference.

Heres a comparison of the U2913WM, U2713H and U2413 side by side that was on TFT central. I am trying to find a better picture that shows the minor size differences between 24" and 27" (there was one of the u2412m in front of the 2713hm for comparison. Cant find the photo now).

I thought so too. I was taken aback when I saw that the difference was minimal. I kind of wish that the monitors that have been coming out the past 6 months were available 2 years ago. I would have a very different set of 1440p monitors now.

Personally I think the size difference between a 24inch and 27inch is pretty big.  I would really recommend anyone thinking about purchasing a new monitor to at least go into a Fry's or Best Buy or something just for size reference.

I'm settling on the new 25inch Acer though

yeah it would have been nice. I think my next upgrade will skip 1440 though.

By then i hope that 2560 will be more common.

Do you mean 2160? I don't think I could use a 4k monitor or if the fabled 5k ultrawide (if it is ever released) in a small form factor. Things would be too small for my taste.

No no, 2560 :P i have use one, and it is very nice :) (dunno how common it is though)

I think 4k on smaller screens would really just be a pain, in the foreseeable future :P

the 24" Dell 4k is discounted everywhere, because anyone who values their time wants a bigger screen...  you probably would be satisfied with that 1

also, you can still find used 1600x1200 17" CRTs ... im sure youll love them

Not a fan of 4k. I feel its unnecessary for anyone who isn't a pro in film or some form of content creation. I would like a set of 24's and thats just because the 2 27's I have barely fit on my desk.

I would. I personally find 15" about the perfect size for a 1080p display.

Why 15"? I assume the PPI would have something to do with it?

It's only pretty when you have 4k content to display lol.

PPI yeah. And it's a shame because you only really find them on laptops, but I just find that the sweet spot for 1080p

Well you *could* upscale. It's not as good as native content, but it's an improvement. And there's always games.

Says the guy that thinks under 25" 1440p is useless xD

But seriously, on phones, over 1080p is a joke and a waste of cost and battery life. I'd prefer having a 720p 5.5" screen for example, cause I don't see a big enough difference to go over 260ppi. Yes, we can see the pixels under about 300ppi, but to me, as long as it's over 250-260ppi, it's not a big deal to me.
