1st Build- Random Restarts?

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

HDD is faulty and it is causing unknown problems to the system, following your logic removing it should solve all your problems, maybe you damaged something while you installed your HDD? This may be stupid but rebuild your computer to see if there are any damaged capacitors and wires. Open your hard drive if you need to, check for any signs of damage. Does it do weird buzzes and ticks? Also is the Hard drive properly plugged in? Sorry for asking so much questions, but also, check your BIOS, maybe your HDD is not properly set up in there, or it is just a coincidence that everything stopped working when you installed a HDD? Instead of Norton also try scanning with Malwarebytes. K then?

So I built my first Pc about a week and half ago, adding a hdd a few days ago for extra storage. Since, adding it my computer has restarted for seemingly no reason at least 6 times , I have ran multiple virus scans using norton and have found no problems, It has restarted even when I should be running cool temps( twice it restarted when all I was doing was watching youtube) and on reboot the temps have never been above 70c (it reboots as soon as the shut down happens). I am using a 600W power suply and I should only be using 420W acording to PC parts picker. The only thing that seems to be wrong is the fact I can't update my BIOS for my motherboard. I am using an MSI-G47 on BIOS 1.6 and the live update tool always fail to install 1.A0. I have ran 5 minute memory and CPU stress tests and they all seem to work fine with by CPU peaking 80C. I am using default settings.

Here are my specs:

CPU:Intel i5 4570 (using stock cooler)

Motherboard: msi z97-g43

Graphic card:AMD radeon r9 280x XFX Double dissipation

RAM:kingston fury hyper x red 1x8gb

PSU:600W Corsair Builder Series CX600M 80PLUS Bronze Modular Power Supply

SSD(boot drive):HyperX FURY 120GB SSD SATA 3 2.5-inch

HDD:Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB 6GB/S

wireless adapter card:Edimax EW-7612PIN 300Mbps Wireless PCI Express Adapter

OS: windows 7 64 bit home premium

I would just update everything including you bios on your motherboard.

I would also reset your motherboard by taking out the battery looking thing on it.

Make sure everything that you need is installed and f it still does it then it might be something in the os.

Edit--

You can also look at the error code to see why it shut down.  The same thing happened to me. I think part of my os was writen over.

when I upgraded to the windows 10 tec preview it stopped so it was software for me.

I have used CC cleaner to repair some reg errors I had, ran the virus scan using malware bytes(no issues found), rewired my SATA cables and Ithink the cpu power cable was a tad loose so I have pushed it in a bit more. I will post if their are any more restarts thanks for your help

it dosen't come up with an error code it just shuts down as if there was a power cuts and opens asking me if I want to boot into safe mode, also just happened again rebooted it stright away and the CPU temp was  52 degrees

There is a way to find the error code. It won't tell you it. Hold I know someone who helps me with this On one of my first topics
