what does it mean

5-3 = 2 soo.. ya know. Anyway the real difference is just a bunch of features that are on the Gaming 5 and not on the Gaming 3 you can see it on the website.

Ummm... I think they have different MIRs, like a difference of $10.

But compare them to one that doesn't say "gaming" on the label. You could save yourself some serious cash. I went with a MSI z97 SLI PLUS. Zero problems so far, and after MIR it was only $110.

You mean YOURS died after 1 month. We mustn't judge an entire line by one single failure.

Hi,

Guys sorry to bother you but what is difference between msi z97 gaming 3 and 5 motherboard

the gaming 5 support dual graphics at pcie 3.0 8x/8x (So full SLI support and full crossfire support) and the gaming 3 does not.

The gaming 3 second pcie slot is only running at X4 speed. So you can't really run any modern GPU higher than a R9 270 on that slot otherwise it will be chocked

the board specs mention it support crossfire but it's very limited and unless you'd run dual R9 270 or lower i won't recommend it.

...so if you plan on using dual graphics cards down the road pick the gaming 5, otherwise get the gaming 3.

Gaming 5 - more PCI-Ex16, more rear USB 2.0, supports SLi etc.

Go to MSi website, click on Products - mobos - gaming, there you can compare individual boards and look for what you really need :)
