So after going between red vs green, the release of the 960 sold me on going nvidia for the first graphics card I will buy with my own money. I'm pretty set with my 1080p monitor and don't see my self going 1440p any time soon. I'm fully upgrading my whole system and putting it in a Define R5. I currently am looking at Gigabyte's' G1 960 because I was thinking about having a blue theme and it just looks great in general. However, I was also thinking of going with a super sexy white and black look with some Hyper x ram and MSI's white 960 and mobo. I was just wondering if MSI's 960 has the same fan off at idle that the G1 has, or if the G1's housing can be removed for painting. Thanks for the help!

I've the GTX 980 G1 Gaming and man that thing is awesome.

But now I wonder, since when the G1 has that "fan off at idle" thing? Cause my fans won't go below 12% fan speed.

Painting shouldn't be a problem. You should be able to take everything apart, but don't quote me on this!

The MSI twin frozr V 960s all have the semi passive mode, but I'm not sure on the krait card, because I don't think that uses the twin frozr V cooler. You'd be better going for the standard MSI 960, and colouring the shroud.

Also, the R9 280, 285 and 280X all have better performance than the 960, especially due to the higher memory bandwith and increaded amount of memory meaning that more mods can be installed say on skyrim for example, without the frame rates suffering.

Personally, if the 960 is at a decent price, go for it if you don't see yourself getting a higher resolution monitor any time soon, as for the price it's not a "bad" card, it's just not as good performing card as people would like.

Yea I was looking at the mid range AMD cards but I value a low power silent build more than a pure balls to the walls max FPS build.

Makes sense to go for the 960 then, due to its low power draw.

Yea I'm not a fan boy at all and if I was a hard core gamer I would go AMD but I don't game that much, but I'm upgrading because I hate when I do decide to game and I have to play at some shitty settings. From the benchmarks I saw, the 960 does more than I need, and is super quiet while doing it.
