On my graphics card there is 1 HDMI port 1 Display Port 1 DVI port. My monitor connects via DVI. I have another monitor but it connects via VGA. My motherboard has a VGA port so is it possible to connect the second monitor to the VGA port and have it run with the other one?

Nope. Both need to be connected to the graphics card.

So I'll need an adapter such as Display port to VGA?

Yup, you can just use a converter (hdmi>dvi then dvi>vga)

Hdmi doesn't carry a vga compatible signal does it. I know display port does.

That's not what I ment, he has two displays one with dvi, one with vga. So use a hdmi to dvi for one, and dvi to vga for the other.

I'm not sure about display port to be honest.

Use this cable for your DVI monitor.

Use this cable for your VGA monitor.

The cables themselves tend to be cheaper than the adapters.  The end up being more useful later on too.

I only need 1 display port to vga. Do you have a link for that?

That's not true, atleast for my setup. I have one HDMI monitor running off my GTX 760 and one VGA monitor running off my integrated.

@OP: Try plugging on into your graphics card and one into your motherboards integrated graphics to see if it works like mine does :)

My Current Build:

This works, but the ideal scenerio is that both are connected to the video card.  You get crashes when you move lots of graphically intese things from the GPU powered monitor to the Motherboard driven monitor.  Also, if it matters, it will only work on Windows, not Linux/Ubuntu.

That is true, it only works for me on Windows but as long as I only game on my Main (GPU) monitor and use my secondary monitor for Youtube and stuff like that it works great :)

You absolutely can use your motherboard for a second monitor, just be aware anything you have open will be rendered by whichever GPU is running the monitor it's open on, so make sure all your games are run on the monitor connected to the GPU.
