so the 3 tb WD green is the size that i need, and i haven't seen another reputable brand that had the same capacity for a better price and was as quiet as i needed it to be (building a SUPER quiet machine)

is there anything thats as big, as quiet, and as trustworthy as WD for a lower price? (yes, im a penny pincher)

also, how fast are they? i plan on having a 500gb or so SSD for games and OS, and using the green for archival storage (hours and hours of video and audio clips.) i know its comparatively slow as a result of the head parking every few seconds and its reduced RPM, but how bad is it?

The WD green is really slow, so dont use it for any programs or documents, just mass storage

for HDDs, i wouldnt recommend going anything higher than a 2TB at the most. Higher capacity HDDs are alot more prone to failure

Hey FrigidNinja,

WD Green is indeed a great drive for storing files for longer terms. Since it's a energy-saving, cool and quiet drive it might be a bit slow for a boot drive or a gaming drive, but still fast enough for regular transfers.
I would also suggest checking out WD Red and WD AV if noise levels are a priority. WD Red is a NAS/RAID class drive that works really quiet. WD AV also has very low noise levels. Here are links:
