I'm working on my first PC build and I wanted to have a starting pc, but one that could still play any game no matter what settings, at 60 fps.  I have all the parts in order for my computer including a GTX 750 ti.  The final thing I need to complete is buying my CPU.  My original plan was to use a Pentium G3258, but right before I was about to order the parts I was bombarded with recommendations to never use a dual core processor, especially not a Pentium.  So I decided to move my CPU budget from $70 (Pentium) to $150-$200.  I have been thinking of getting a Core i3 or a Core i5 processor.  Since there are plenty of each, I'm having a hard time deciding.  Is there anybody out there that can help me make my decision?

What board will you be using? Do you have a full budget for the PC? Ideally I'd want something more powerful than a 750Ti which will require you to turn a few settings down, whereas a competitively priced R9 270/R7 265 will outperform one

i5 4670k - Z87X-UD3H - EVGA GTX 670 Sig 2 - Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - 8GB Avexir Core White 1600Mhz - Corsair 750D w/ RGB LED Mod & Remote Control - 2x SP120 - 3x Enermax Cluster - 2TB Seagate SSHD - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 - SuperFlower Leadex Gold 750W

I always advise against a dual core if you can afford more.

A cheap i5, Gigabyte or Asus mobo, and an r9 270 would be great.

I3 aren't bad, they have hyperthreading that fixes the quad core needed issue. Just dual cores without hyperthreading in general are bad.

As for the 750TI, very good card, don't change it, maxwel is great

Look t jaysTwoCents bid on that, also a great referance

750Ti gets absolutely munched by the R7 265 and R9 270(X), it's not a great card for the money at all.

Is there any specific brand r9 270 you would recommend?

Yes

The cheapest one tbh, there are no reference R9 270 cooler cards so any non-reference cooler will be decent - if there's a little price difference, the Sapphire, Asus, Gigabyte will all be good

Have you already bought that board btw? It doesn't look particularly good to me if you have bought it already

Cool, I'd go for a Z97 or H81 board instead from Asus or Gigabyte

Most of the parts for my build were chosen as as cheap as possible, as it was originally supposed to be a 'budget build', it has clearly escalated from that though as anybody can tell.

I have all of the parts in a list, this discussion was originally just about the CPU.  I'm happy about the GPU and MB recommendations, but I'm not going to share anything else.  And no, I am not buying a new monitor, keyboard, etc.

Alright cool

So yeah, as the others said get the best you can tbh, but I'd spend a bit more on the GPU than the CPU (even though the Pentium G3258 is a dual core, when overclocked especially it can be a decent gaming chip!)
