Hi guys,

I made a post yesterday about possibly creating a X99 based system for my first build. The build will be used for gaming, programming, web developing and virtual machines. I have since then decided that I am just going to go with the Intel i7 4790k. I have came up with this build here :

PCPartPicker part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/RkMYqs

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£265.20 @ Kustom PCs)
CPU Cooler: Enermax ELC-LT240-HP 111.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  (£88.56 @ Scan.co.uk)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£107.96 @ Scan.co.uk)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  (£54.98 @ Novatech)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (£39.95 @ CCL Computers)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card  (£449.99 @ Amazon UK)
Case: Corsair Air 240 MicroATX Mid Tower Case  (£72.43 @ Amazon UK)
Power Supply: XFX 650W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  (£60.36 @ CCL Computers)
Total: £1139.43

I don't wish to use any other case, and I don't need an O/S or mouse/keyboard.

Would this build be good enough for my requirements. If not what should be changed.

Very nice build!  :D

The only suggestion I would make is adding an SSD, but it's not vital  ;)

Sniped.

Yes, ssd for sure.

I would avoid a 980 and get a r9 290x or a 970 instead. And maybe a nocutua or cooler master CPU cooler will do better.

If you want water cooling I believe the NZXT Kraken x61 would be better, can't fault the 980 though! aha

get the 980 or the r9 290x i disagree with the earliier posters 970 choice, if you plan on keeping the build for a large quantity of time before upgrading the vram issues could become an issue

CPU-i5 4690k 4.4ghz @ 1.190V, MOBO-MSI z97 gaming 3, Cooler-hyper 212 evo, GPU- r9 290x asus directcuII (-37Mv), Storage-120gb v300(switching soon), 1tb caviar blue, CASE-Red/black h440, PSU-Antec TPC 650.

Ok I think I will just go with the 980 since I will be keeping the build for a while before adding upgrades to it.

You can't spend £1139 on a pc and not include an SSD.

You can pick up a 250GB/256GB SSD for around £75 or so. I can't link any as pcpartpicker is down atm but something like the Crucial BX100 250GB would do fine.

I was thinking of maybe adding a m2 SSD but I am not sure how good or reliable they are. PcPartPicker is back up.

What is your max budget?

Agree with the others, a 290X + SSD would be great
