Box Fan Filter

So I leave a box fan running at night to help me sleep but I also have a bit of a dust problem in my room. Everybody does but I was wanting to put a filter on the fan. Being that it runs 6-10hrs a day I figured it would capture a lot of dust but I don't know whether to get the washable strapon filter on Amazon or just buy a Furnace filter which would most likely capture more dust but would also be about $13 for one filter (3 months) or $30 for a 6 pack (18 months).

The furnace filter will give you cleaner air since it's a finer filter material but will lack in airflow compared to the washable filter since it's more open, but if you want to minimize dust from entering the furnace filters will work better.

Theres a video on YouTube that a University put up showing how to do this actually but he put it on the exhaust side of the fan. I find this stupid, would you personally put it on the intake side of the fan?

I would put it on the intake side less cleaning of the fan blades since I'm lazy and don't want to take apart the fan.

The only benefit I see with it on the exhaust side is to prevent the filter from falling into the blades but box fans have guards so nothing to worry about really.
