I am going to be buying all this in about a fortnight and i'm just fine lining it so it hits a good little notch in the value to performance area. i have received lots of help on these forums leading towards this build and now i would like to get some final opinions before "finalising" this build. It will be used for destroying most games (not including Witcher 3 and ridiculous games like that) on 1080p (hence the title) on ultra settings and i just need conformation that it will do so. i also want it to run quiet and cool, which i think this will do (reason i chose 970 over 290x). my budget is $1750 AUD except if theres places to save i would prefer to. there are some things i would want to know though

- from your own experience is 120GB SSD enough or should i go for a 240GB for $50 more?

- do i need to change anything to another brand because of reliability problems/ are there any bad issues with any of the products listed? (i'm aware of the 3.5gb VRAM issue with the 970 and its not too important considering i am only on 1080p)

- is this motherboard good for a stable overclock?

- is its bios relatively easy to navigate? (just out of interest)

- any small tweaks i should make that will really make a difference to the outcome of the build

Yes.... the kicker is the 970. despite it's recent issue that card is till overkill for 1080p, and probably will be for a couple of years to come. (especially with DX12 on the horizon). It''l game comfortably at 1440p as well with only a few games forcing you to lower your settings.

I would highly recommend a 256GB SSD if you can afford it. I had a 120GB Samsung EVO and i found it frustrating to manage the small amount of space on the drive after windows installation.

you say that its overkill but what about if i were to have all msaa and whatever other "aa" thingies on at once for a game? even then would it be overkill? and if its really overkill what should i change it to (out of interest)

thanks

Sure, the motherboard's fine for oc'ing. There aren't really any guarantees when it comes to oc'ing though.

The bios should be a breeze to navigate if you've used any other ones before.

There aren't that many ground shattering changes that could be made but you could probably fit a larger ssd with some balancing. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/N26dzy

how about this (just changed the SSD to 240GB which added like 60$)?

KEEP IT, the 960 would be under kill in 6 - 12 months for 1080p, excuse me for my language but the 970 is MUCH more "future proof" than other cards and will keep you gaming on ultra for well over 2 years.

fun fact - i am about to buy an EVGA GTX 970 SSC

Not had any expereance, but i would pick the EVGA option over MSI

My experience is more with it's big brother, but most reviews tend to have it pushing framerates that require a 100hz+ monitor to take advantage of. the 960 seems to be the sweet spot for 1080p at the moment. It can't run everything at max, but it will run most AAA titles at a comfortable 60hz.. You could also buy a 280X for less that'll run 1080p comfortably.

These aren't really my choice. I'm a tech junky and love my 980. I do however have a screen pushing 200hz so I don't get eye strain on longer gaming sessions.

Maybe cut the ram from 16 to 8 and double the SSD size?

thats a good idea

@Newenthusiast i have lots of tabs, programs and games open at the same time, will it really make a difference if i put to 8gb?

No, and plus, you can always upgrade ram whereas you cant upgrade an ssd without re installing your OS

edit: should i put 1x8 Gb for now so i can upgrade it later or is it really not worthwhile?

Honestly it just seems to be a common theme when people are talking about builds or making recommendations, the Pro/Evo Samsung SSD's seem to always be on top of peoples lists. I guess there are some area's where its ok to go the cheaper path but SSD's isn't one of them. I'm no expert just thought i would pop in and give my 2 cents :)

actually today going cheap on SSD's might cost you, tomorow it really won't. A Samsung 850 pro is right up against the actual limit of transfer over SATA 6 GB/s. There really isn't anything quicker, and there probably won't be. On a budget build (or budgetish) Crucial, and OCZ are fine IMO. They are budget components and punch far above their weight. Samsung 850s are designed for professionals, and prosumers. (At least today) They are premium components, and are priced accordingly.4

If you want cheap and quick just RAID 0 a pair of crucials, or OCZ.
