UPDATE: HELP: RE:2nd Build: AMD

Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

Yup, the MSI 970 is a good motherboard.  Other excellent options are:

ASRock 970 Performance

Gigabyte 970A-UD3

Asus Sabertooth 990FX

There are a lot of AM3+ motherboards to choose from, the most important factor when deciding is the VRM phase design.  Make sure that there are at least 6+2 VRM phases on the motherboard you pick.

Here is an AM3+ Motherboard Phasing Spreadsheet to help you sift through the important stats.

Sawp guys. I recently build a 4690K as a Main Rig for entertainment and gaming, but now i'm looking to build a work rig, well for work. So i dug up some old parts in my garage and found a FX 8320 in there with a few bent pins which I fixed. I already have ram, SSD, GPU, and other stuff for it except the motherboard, since this is a work rig which I use Krita software (Yes I get paid for what I sell as a Student), Photo Shop editing, Aerospace 3D Rendering, and a bit gaming at work during break. I was looking at the MSI 970 Gaming motherboard, and since it looks cheap i'm wondering if the board is a GOOD board for it's price. Does it still have MSI's old VRM issues? Does it have problems while overclocking? Are the original MSI AM3+ problems solved in this board? Thank you

Edit 2/15: So my board arrived today, but the CPU isn't powering on at all, I think the pens that I fixed aren't working. Is there another 8-core AMD FX thats pretty cheap since most of them are like 200 again.

So it's a good buy for it's price tag/features? Not comfortable spending over 100 on a work rig haha. I'm considering this or the Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 for fan control out of the box, since I don't want the noise to piss of my co-workers

You can't go wrong with either, they are both excellent motherboards.  I too am an Asus motherboard fan because of their fan control, so go with the Asus mobo if you are more comfortable with that.

I think i'd go for the 970 from MSI for the looks haha. Hope it doesn't have the VRMS blow up

No, not at all.  They made great improvements with the MSI 970 Gaming.  The on board sound of the MSI mobos are supposed to be very good.

FX 8 core CPU's occasionally get down close to $100 but it's rare.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 4GHz @ 1.3 volts | CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO | RAM: 8GB DDR3

Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P | GPU: EVGA GTX 960 SSC | SSD: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO

HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Green | Case: Fractal Design Core 2500 | OS: Windows 10 Home

Craigslist, LTT/OCN classifieds, ebay.

If you want brand new, $130+

What specific program do you use for work? The i5 comes incredibly close to the performance of an FX8 in a lot of applications.

I just discovered a OEM one. But thanks for the help. I appreciate it :)
