That is the number I was told to multiply by 2. which is only 1000Mhz or so. but this ram should be 1600. I don't know what is wrong.

nvm.

The guy told me it's triple channel ram (multiplied by 3 instead of 2) and that I should be running at my correct speeds. Is that not true?

What CPU are you currently running? Is it the i7 920 from your profile page?

k, I'll leave this here.

http://ark.intel.com/products/37147/Intel-Core-i7-920-Processor-8M-Cache-2_66-GHz-4_80-GTs-Intel-QPI

Memory Specifications - " Memory Types: DDR3-800/1066.. Max # of Memory Channels 3 "

Triple or Dual channel does not affect the frequency that cpu z shows. The effective frequency is 534 x 2 = ~1066. The answer given before was wrong.

Yes, I am using the i7 920. Bought this cpu in 2009.

Oh, so the cpu just cannot run the ram that high. Correct?

Yes, the RAM is limited by the CPU. There's probably not much of a performance difference though.

^ This.

Doesn't matter if it's dual-channel, triple-channel or...8-channel. Effective memory speed is 2x what is shown.

The i7-920 officially supports up to 1066MHz, but doesn't the CPU / motherboard support XMP? Doesn't it allow you to overclocking the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) to use 1333MHz or 1600MHz?

If I recall, it should. I remember tons of people running 1333MHz and 1600MHz on the X58 platform. 1866+ is a different story.
