There are ways of squeezing the i5-4460 and R9 290 into the same budget. It's just about knowing where to cut corners in the rest of the build ($30 can be made up quickly). Unless you're just buying them to pieces of hardware then the i5-4460 and the R9 280X. It won't be until DirectX 12 games arrive that AMD chips will perform on par with Intel offerings.

I'd rather use an FX 8320 to set myself on fire, a Pentium G3258 is only good as a s1150 place holder-and will bottleneck the R9 290, and the i5 really can't be beaten for value when you look at just how good they are-even an i5 4440 is enough to drive any graphics card with no bottlenecking.

Would you rather go with a i5 4460 and R9 280, FX 8320 and R9 280, or Pentium G3258 and R9 290, I might wanna make videos.

i5 and R9 280...worth saving some more for an R9 290 though.
