Hello,

 

I will soon be buying the S.T.A.L.K.E.R trilogy while it's on sale ( http://www.bundlestars.com/all-bundles/stalker-complete-bundle/) and I was wondering if they follow on from each other ( like you have to play the first one to understand the second one )

They connect but later games are more like prequel + a sequel that's loosely related.

Hmm clear sky is a prequel of the firs one.

They are all connected, all games after shadow of Chernobyl has elements of the first game, but you play as different characters, in SOC you play as streylok, in Clear sky you play Fang, and in Call of pripyat you play as a major of the spetsnaz

 

the 3 games are all different in a way.

 

Shadow of Chernobyl - Scary shit and a lot of paranormal stuff, very heavy story followed - follows Steylok, a loner and ended up being the first stalker in the zone to reach deep into the zone in search of the wish granter ( legendary/myth/rumour about an item that grants your every wish )

Clear Sky - More faction based, follows Scar, a loner ( stalker ) who somehow managed to survive an emission

Call of Pripyat - Follows a Spetsnaz major as he goes undercover to find out what happened to the unit sent into the zone. Generally regarded as the best one as it has some of the earlier games.

I recommend you play through them all, these games are quite hard and you'll need to spam quicksave a lot.

 

If you feel hardcore then download the mod Misery along with armed zone and you'll cry like a little bitch every time you see a bloodsucker or controller.
