Made the switch to amd

My old rig was the Sabertooth Z77 with a dual core i3 and 8gb corsair dominators. after all the research i did i decided to sell my intel rig and go to amd.

 

my new rig is the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z, AMD FX-8350, 8 core, cooled by a xigmatek dark knight II,  16gb Corsair Vengane Pro, 

 

and i decided to keep it in my fractal design define R4.

 

let me know what you think of my new rig, and if i should go to water cooling.

I think this is the result of the whole 8 core CPU console hype. Time will tell if it's the right decision. After all, if you sold it at a good price, then why not?

no, its because i wanted an amd system and a rog motherboard.

no oc yet once i go water cooled i will be.

Why all that is holy did you get a beast motherboard and a standard cpu, should of got a decent gigabyte board for half the price and set a low or mid range i5. You would have got better performance but whatever thats in the past. Im sure you will not make that mistake again.

I would have personally just bought a used i7 ivy or sandy if I were in your predicament.

An 8350 build from scratch is a much more well-rounded build than a 3570k from scratch in my opinion, you get great performance for less money which allows you to spend more on the graphics card, which is what's most important for games.

th whole point of my new build is to be amd, if i bought an i7 it wouldnt be, and i dont know if i would buy and cpu parts used. i feel like it might be a bad idea.

i dont know. i have been looking at amd for a while and realized that the price/preformance was better. the FX-8350 is $194.29 and the competing core i7 is $289.00.

But wouldn't you lose the price/performance advantage by losing money in the process of selling your z77 board & i3 used ?

Sorry i meant the i3 and the sabertooth. Those two make no sense together lol.

The 8350, 8320, etc, do not really compete with the i7, remove the i7 for a moment, focus on gaming, the 8350 competes with the i5 pretty damn well for the price for gaming and the likes, the i7 makes next to no difference in games that do not utilize the extra cores / threads, but the i7 will demolish the 8350 in rendering, editting, etc.

I would say for cooling do a custom loop or a h220 or h100i

If he wanted an ROG board he would have had to buy a cpu and mobo it would be cheaper to go with AMD
