Driver update heats up my GPU...?

Go to solution Solved by Tetters,

The fans will spin at max for a second or two to ensure the card is kept cool during driver updates that could effect fan profiles. Its the similar scenario to all fans blowing full on boot-up etc.

I'm using a EVGA GTX 970 ACX SC 2.0 and I just updated the new driver that was listed on 10th of Feb. While installing, my GPU fans suddenly spun on max speed and a very loud noise coming from my GPU for about 2 seconds and then everything back to normal. Is there something wrong with my card? I haven't overclocked this card before.

I don't agree with this. I believe it's because the driver is being modified - in other words, the driver has control of the fans. Updating a driver isn't taxing on the GPU at all - it doesn't use the GPU.

Thats my point though, due to the driver being modified, the fans spin at full. The update isnt taxing on the card at all, its a safety precaution to ensure temps dont jump
