Gigabyte 670 vs 7950

H2hohoho

Is the price difference of 70 dollars worth it?

The nvidia has a better frame latency. If they perform within a few frames of each other it might be worth the nvidia to get the mother image

AMD next beta driver will include a memory management fix for their GCN lineup to tackle this frame latency issue. If they're able to deliver it in the next few weeks, more reason to go for 7950 perhap?

Not anymore, the frame latency issue has been resolved already with the new drivers .

Cheers! All nvidia mid-high end cards are redundant for people who only game ATM :P (nvidia for people who need cuda)

well this is all fun... guys wtf are you talking about 7950 even with the boost can only beat the 670 (not all the time) at 2560X1440/1600, and only because it has a 3 gb vram, i mean guys read some reviews :

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7950_Boost_BIOS_Upgrade/1.html

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6025/radeon-hd-7970-ghz-edition-review-catching-up-to-gtx-680

not newest reviews but they still apply, and this is even with boost on, now if you look at the price/performance ofc 7950 is more viable, but still if you can get a nice deal on a 670 there is no point takin a 7950... sure club 3d made a nice model go watch TTL channel on youtube, he has a great review, and the only way 7950 can beat the 670 is if you OC it like mad, otherwise no way, and you can still buy a MSI gtx 670 PE, yeah they had to limit it but still that card is a monster 670.

when 670 came out it was close to a 7970, and it was priced better, today if you are on a tight budget 7950 is good, otherwise, forget it... oh and one more thing peak fps means nothing, i know amd will release new drivers soon, but so will nvidia, so if you are wiling to wait till crysis 3, when last major patch updates come out, you will have the safest bet, as for now 670 is still a better card...

TS should mention what game he gonna be playing, at what resolution, also the exact model and price for both GPU.

your doing a completely wrong comparison, you should be comparing a 7950 to a 660 Ti and not a 670. The 7950 will overclock better and in the future when a graphics upgrade is needed will scale better when in crossfireX. If you are more interested in gpu performance for now you should look at comparisons between a 7970 and a 670, also take into the account the technologies the sides provide. If you want to play alot of games that use PhysX then Nvidia is for you. Nvidia also has cuda processing which can come in handy for general usage, but AMD also has app acceleration. At the end of the day both cards are very strong and should be destroying current generation games at 1080P, and as i said a 7950 or 7970 will OC a little better than the nvidia cards so bear this in mind if you are going to overclock.

In kind regards,

Jake.

well yes, there you go, but in my country 7950 is cheaper, but still you get lower performance with it, your oc will naturally be affected by heat, so if you plan on overclocking be sure you live in a country that has 30°C max in summer because if i tried to OC, and use it 24/7 in summer i would say goodbye to my card in no time, that is why i always take things in moderation and i do not go crazy with my OC... so 670 wins in my book any day, that is why i got it.

Imo they perform similarly. If you play games with Physx, the 670 might be better. You can still run Physx with AMD card but itll be processed on the cpu instead. I use an MSI Twin Frozn 3 7950 in eyefinity with three u2412m and i can max most games. Most games dont surpass 1.5gb vram on a single monitor and 2gb on a 670 will run Surround properly. On a single monitor, both are great choices. The high end gpus perform very similarly, not considering Physx.

1.5? Crysis 2 dx11 and high textures pack can get 1.8 gb easy n 1080p, 3 monitor is pushing it, 7950 has a 3 gig vram, that is an advantage, but all that stuff with 3 monitors is..., if you can max this game on a single card you will have 30fps on average, and it does not matter at all because 30 is not a very playable your lowest fps will be in low 20's so unless you are making CF/SLI, sam goes for BF3, there is no point, then again if you play dirt 3, np you can handle it no problem, and the cards were not the same since day one it was 660ti

I bought my Sapphire 7950 Vapor-X + 3 NeverSettle games + 20% MOH:W voucher for $360. Sold the games for $100, so basically i only spent $260 for a 7950 Vapor-X which i can overclock it to 1100/1500@Stock and 1200/1600@1.2/1.6 =D

Freaking happy with it.
