I'm looking to get a really high-end pair of headphones to go with a USB soundcard solution (mini-ITX, so I've only got my 7870 in the build ATM, taking up the one PCIe slot.) I keep coming back to the meze 88s. I was wondering anyone here had experience with them?

I also am looking for a good USB soundcard solution. any thoughts? budget is kinda out the window at the moment.

hmmm it seems the esmooth website is down http://woodheadphones.com/?nr=0

those meze 88's were being sold by esmooth for $148 unless you wanted to pay apple pricing for the meze logo.

or maybe shell out your money on headphones that have been properly vetted by audiophiles for years rather than a new startup rebranding chinese headphones.

what audio signature are you looking to achieve?

edit: here's an old link of their products. the meze look hauntingly familiar to that esmooth lol

I'm in audio for theaters and want to break into recording. only problem is that I've been able to rely on top-notch speaker systems up till now.

what headphones would you suggest. as for audio signature, I'd like something that's studio-grade flat. IE, no bass boost or something. I can do that in an EQ or mixer.

You want in-ears? Is this for use IN a studio? Or is an open design OK?

How about the Etymotics ER-4P and the O2+ODAC (with 1x/2.5x gain option).  Wouldn't get much flatter than that with in ears.

the meze 88 is a circumaural around ear design that looks similar to an audio technica 3d wing desing with wooden cups.

seeing how you were almost willing to spend $300 on the meze cash grab markups

its been a while since I looked for flat response studio monitors.

at the low end there are the sony's mdr v6 and the 7502 and akg 240 all of which I can easily find thousands of pictures and youtube vids of artists and musicians using them in studio situations.

then at the 120-150 mark there is the audio technica ath m50, I've heard some call it a bit too bassy to be a reference monitor, I have them and like them but I kind of want a bit more bass than the m50 for my tastes.

at price ranges higher that this I think there is an offering from hifiman that is pretty flat, but I really haven't been looking at flat response studios for a while. hopefully others will chime in for $300 ish flat response studio monitors

oh nvm I thought people were still talking about the one Linus reviewed, my bad.  AKG K702 mainly for the non-booming bass as it helps make mastering a bit easier.  Either of your suggestions would be fine too at their pricepoints.

I'd still get the O2+ODAC with the K7 though, it was pretty much designed to be ideal for that headphone.

hahahaha, the sony 7502 is what I'm trying to replace. it's got a short in the wire, see. I'd rather try to avoid having a cable I can't replace separately from the headphones. part of the reason I was leaning meze is because their headphones basically use a 1/8th to 18/th (male/male) to connect to a computer. That way I can always just replace said cord if it shorts.
