I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I figured it was. And I'm sorry for the wall, please bear with me!

Anyway, A while back I found out that shield and I wasn't interested because I thought it was only

PC streaming, but now I found out it's also an android tablet and so I got more interested.

The thing is that I'm an iPhone user. Being an iPhone user means that I have spent a lot of money on the app store and I have progression in my various games on my Apple device which I obviously have no intentions of throwing away, nor do I see myself going for an android phone for this very reason among others.

However as I said I have an interest in being able to play my PC games from in my bed, in the living room stuff like that. On top of that, a tablet is good for gaming on its own but also just in general, for movies, notes etc.

So basically what I'm asking is: Is it worth it considering my situation? I have no intention of using an android phone as I have a massive App Store library. So is the shield worth it?

Last note: I should probavly mention that I'm a massive PC gamer. I spend MANY hours gaming, I have hundreds and hundreds of games, various home consoles as well as portable ones as well as a high-end PC with the GTX 980 and equivalent hardware.

Just an FYI: If you're going to buy one, supposedly a new one is getting released soon in the coming months with a Tegra X1. (Just a rumour, but I think it's true)

To answer your question, the Shield Tablet is one of the fastest Andriod tablets available, so I recommend you purchase one. Tablets are great for browsing the web or watching Youtube or even watching movies. I just can't use a phone for doing the same type of applications.

As well  as the customisation that Andriod has is much, much better.

I'll keep the rumour in mind, thank you!

I'm aware that the shield is very powerful for gaming, videos and stuff like that. My worry is just having an android and an apple device (because I really don't plan to get an android phone. Not a fanboy, I just have too much money on the App Store, lol) would cause it to go largely unused? In a hardcore gamer but I still like those free to play energy recharge games and all of those are tied to my iPhone. And on top of that I'll the. Have to choose every time a new game comes out, which device to get it on etc.

So maybe what I'm asking is... Is the shield worth it if I maybe made the choice of not buying any apps/games I can also get on the AppStore and stayed with tablet/android exclusives as well as the tablet for media and the PC streaming? Is it /then/ worth it?

And thank you for the quick reply!

If you want a tablet the iPads are better (I can't stand iOS or a 4:3 ratio so I'll never get one, but they are better). That said imo the Shield tablet is Android's best offering at the moment as it's a very solid tablet and if that inhome streaming feature is something you'll make use of that's even more of a bonus since the Shield is at a very solid price for just a tablet that any other features it offers are bonuses you aren't really paying for.

That said, as someone said above, supposedly a new one coming soon so I'd recommend waiting to either buy the new one or buy the old one then since there'll be a newer model so you can save money.

I'm in for information.

I have been considering a tablet for email, youtube, and general time wasting. So I am interested in what some of you guys who have used one have to say.

I'm thinking of getting one for reading, note taking at school and messing around with Android. Following thread.

Thanks for the replies, people.

My main 'issue' is this: Having an Android tablet and Apple phone would "split" up my games and which account I bought games on. As I've had Apple for years, my intent is to continue focusing on this if I see games on both platforms.

So basically the question I have is: Is the tablet worth it solely for the PC streaming, for tablet/android-only games as well as general "tablet-stuff" (movies, notes, browsing) etc. when A: I plan to get an iPhone 6S+ whenever they come out (which is a big phone, making all the browsing easier and I've heard a lot of people have 'forgotten' about their tablets after getting a 6+) and B: when I'm the kind of gamer who has a *ton* of games that I don't really play to the fullest or not even finish on several platforms including portables like the Vita and 3DS.

The B could go two ways though... It could end up like every other console I have, not unused but "under-used" or it could mean I actually end up playing many more of my PC games and feel like I paid my "money's worth"

-- I'm really sorry for being so long-winded. I'm extremely bad at being consise and getting to the point. If I don't explain I feel people won't fully grasp my "dilemma" and won't be able to really answer me, and then I'll waste your time even more than with these walls, haha.

I'm the opposite of you; I have an Android phone (OnePlus One, great phone BTW for cheap) and an iPad 3 (which I plan on selling). If you do make the switch, definitely use Pushbullet, it'll make your life SO much easier. Use it for other things too, like getting your phone's notifications on your PC. Aaaaaaaand I sound like an ad. :P

My main 'issue' is this: Having an Android tablet and Apple phone would "split" up my games and which account I bought games on. As I've had Apple for years, my intent is to continue focusing on this if I see games on both platforms.

This really depends on how bought in to Apple's ecosystem you are. If you have, say, $20 of games on iOS, I'd say go for the Shield. But if you have $100+ of games, then I would be hesitant. It really depends on how much youmve spent, how much progress you've made and how much that progress is worth to you. Also, some games sync across platforms (SimCity BuildIt does this using Facebook, for example). This is something I wish more apps did.

So basically the question I have is: Is the tablet worth it solely for the PC streaming, for tablet/android-only games as well as general "tablet-stuff" (movies, notes, browsing) etc. when A: I plan to get an iPhone 6S+ whenever they come out (which is a big phone, making all the browsing easier and I've heard a lot of people have 'forgotten' about their tablets after getting a 6+)

The OnePlus One is 5.5" (i.e. The same as the iPhone 6 Plus and presumably the 6S+ or whatever), so I can help here

I honestly still see potential for a 8-9" device in my life, even with a 5.5" phone and a 24" monitor for my (ALMOST complete, hurry up Amazon/Directron/MacMall) PC. This device would be used for note taking in class (DirectStylus 2) and reading (1080p screen, though I prefer the 7.9" 4:3 screen of the Nokia N1) Kindle books, Google Play Books books and longform web pages. Obviously, your milage may vary, but don't take it from me: MKBHD also agrees that the Shield tablet is good for multipurpose use as well. Throw in the gaming features and the Tegra K1 and you have a beast.

I think you'll have to answer this one yourself. It really depends on how much you game, which games you have on what platform, what platform you play on most etc. I really can't know any of this without knowing YOU IRL. Sorry!

Haha, that's fine. I'm like that too.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Well, I've spent quite a lot of money. I'm struggling to keep all my apps in my 64gb phone. I have about 15gbs of music on it as well, though. But I constantly have to manage which apps I have on and sometimes I make "Steam sale purchases" for a lack of a better term and buy things on a whim because I'm slightly interested in them and because apps generally are cheap(er than other games)

But it's definitely more than 100+ -- There's only one game I've really spent a lot of money on in app purchases and I know that game syncs on facebook, just like you mentioned! So that's cool.

So yeah, I really doubt I'll go to Android any time soon. I'm not a fanboy whatsoever, I *do* like iOS though, but it's simply a matter of how "bought in to Apple's ecosystem" I am, as you said.

The thing is, I'm not even interested in an iPad except for a couple of games that would be cool on an iPad but that urge will go away once I get a 6+, I think. The real reason is the PC streaming, being able to play on my PC in the bed, being able to watch a movie more comfortably than on my future 6+ (No TV and consoles are by PC, so once I'm off that chair, there's nothing but the portable) as well as notes and such -- I'm just wondering if it's worth the money for just that.

I think I'm going to wait for the 2nd Shield tablet to come out regardless of what my choice will be, and then the gaming features you mentioned will be even better!

You know, I was just about to say that I probably am the only one with the answer. I think I'll probably end up getting it once the new tablet comes out, maybe I was just looking for someone to justify the purchase? Haha.
