Buying a used CPU

The ad of the CPU said it is sealed however when he send me a pic it was sealed on the plastic packaging of the cpu, and not sealed in the box. Does this looks unused and safe to buy?

Looks unused, since there doesn't seem to be any thermal paste that had been on the CPU.

Its safe, either it works fine and the seller says it works fine or it doesn't work at all. If that's the case then its not hard to prove at all and get your money back (although it would be silly to try and pass a broken CPU off as working)

Intel CPUs don't have pins.

 

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about buying a used CPU. I'd only be worried about buying from a shady person. CPUs don't wear down like car parts. There's no moving parts and stock voltages are well within safe ranges for them to run for years and years.

I want to guess that you're Vietnamese, but you could easily be from Costa Rica. I'd be guessing Vietnam because as far as I know Intel CPUs from Costa Rica are really common (I think all of mine are.)

They could be opened, but judging from the lack of any thermal paste remnants it's likely that they're unused.

Thermal paste would not be the way to tell, isopropyl will clean just about anything.

 

The IHS fingers that are off to either side of the CPU would be marred from contacting the socket clamp. As @Firearm2112 said, check the contacts on the opposite side of the CPU. If it's been mounted there will be tiny dots in the center of each contact.

 

From the top they look unmounted and clean

I bought a used 3570k awhile back for a hundred bucks in just the plastic sleeve as well. All you really want to do is look at the pins on the back and make sure there isn't any damage.

Its fine to buy a 2ND hand cpu but its life span is lowered cuz its used 

 

but the good thing is its tested and working

I bought a used C2D a while ago and it was fine, even for the age of that processor. so buying used should be fine if there is no obvious signs of damage, i.e. lifted pads
