Ordered the wrong card

So during my haste to get my computer ordered I purchased the midrange Gigabyte gtx 970. Should i return it and get the G1 gaming Version. I have already spoken with the seller and it will be fine. Your thoughts will be very appreciated.

Don't see the point in doing that at all, both cards have amazing cooling. only one is "binned" for overclocks and has a backplate, the other doesn't have a backplate and isn't binned for higher overclocks.

If you need that backplate and higher overclock

go for it

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

Only difference I see is a very small factory overclock. 1114 MHz instead of 1178 on the core clock, 1253 instead of 1329 on the mem. Not worth it if you ask me. Can probably just overclock it up to the higher end version if you really want, and probably higher.

I have also seen and heard of G1's not being that overclock friendly even though they have the Gigabyte Gauntlet OC binning process, contradictory results all round, some good, some great, some are shit overclockers.

 

Whatever GTX 970 you like the look of, google reviews, make a decision.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
