I recently build a PC for the first time and I've encountered the problem of it not turning on.

I'm pretty sure that all the connectors are attached properly, but I'm not ruling them out as a cause.

When I press the power button the fans slightly move and the LED in one of them turns on, but they stop immediately.

There is green light on the GPU which I believe indicates that it has power correctly connect.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

To me it sounds like the PSU isnt adequate to power the system.

What are the specs?

I had the same problem when i placed 4 sticks of ram on my mobo.

Could be a dying psu as well , or damaged motherboard( as in the dimm slots  in my case)

Try another PSU.

It should have enough power, as far as I know this. PCPartPicker didn't flag an incompatibility either.

That sounds right, a friend of mine had pretty much the same issue.

It happened to me when i upgraded my GPU from a reference hd 2600 pro to a Asus Radeon hd 4890,

My old cheap "IHaveNoIdeaWhatBrandItIs" PSU with 480 watts peak power wasnt adequate, So i bought the GX lite 600w.

You have enough wiggle room with your PSU, so I don't see how that could be the issue. You said you don't think it's the connectors, but have you tried reseating them all? Since it's a semi-modular PSU make sure everything is plugged into the PSU securely as well.

The PSU might have a blown cap, But it is pretty improbable.

Check the RAM sticks, Try one at the time in all the slots, It might be a faulty RAM stick, Or the motherboard might be faulty.

Does the fact that a green light is present on the GPU indicate anything about the motherboard's condition?

I see that as being an indicator that electricity is flowing and if the board was shorted that wouldn't appear (AFAIK I could be horribly wrong)

I don't have other parts to test with, but what are ways to figure out whether or not it's the board?

Sudden update: GPU power has been disconnected and system now powers on. I'm not sure what this means but it seems like useful information

When your GPU shows a green light it means that it both gets power from the motherboard And the port on top of it(It would be red if it didnt get power from the top port.

I dont know what th problem could be, I have not encountered that problem before.

You could try to reseat the GPU or try another PCIe slot to see if the slot was DOA.
