so i just bought a gtx 750ti to put in my old dell precision 490 with a 750w psu and 2 xeon 5160 cpus but when i installed it, it never worked so i called evga support and they told me since my mobo is so old that the maxewell gpus will not work on it not to mention its pci gen 1 so he recommended a Kepler gpu or older so i was wondering if an r7 260x will work or a gtx 650ti

Why can't a Cleric/Priest/Bishop help a beginner KoC? Cause he's No-bless...When I post something, the thread dies.OR I'm incredibly good at giving informations,
OR I'm a thread killer.
Prolly both.

the smartest thing in this scenario is to go and pick up a new motherboard from Asus,MSI,Gigabyte, Asrock etc and maybe pick up an i3,i5,i7 (depending on what budget you're on) There's no need to return the graphics card and if your motherboard only supports PCI-E 1.0 you should probably upgrade

as i have said i would if i had the money a dell precision 490 is only compatible with dell precision 490 parts so if i had to replace mobo i would have to build a whole new pc

Why isn't any one helping this guy by answering his questions?    He's on a budget and there's nothing wrong with that.   "Spend even more money and upgrade the rest of your stuff" isn't ideal for some people for a number of potential reasons.

@BUREIDEN I wish I could give you some advice about some specific cards as options.  What you might try doing is posting in the Video Card forum.  But leave off the details about why you need an old card (just ask about Kepler cards) and hope that no one from this thread infects that new thread with worthless posts, too.

I had a 6990 + 6970 trifire rig and that was good, if you can handle the noise and heat.

Oh I was just saying for the purposes of discussion lol.

And also OP, it may be time to upgrade system rather than GPU.

Dual 760s is a joke. I would have liked Dual 780s or 770s

But i would like to see a dual card from Asus with dual 980s due to their low TDP
