i got a question im thinking about building a new computer around the Pentium G3258 and im wondering if i pair it with a gtx 960 will i be able to play games like Assassin's Creed Unity on low to medium setting at a decent frame rate on a z97 board

nope the Pentium is not a good CPU because the CPU is a dual core only

it will cause your games to stutter

get at least the i3 for the 4 treads

Ehhhh... Short answer maybe. Unity is picky.

Long answer? Games like Dragon Age Inquisition will not work at all; it's a quad-core optimized game, and I'm sure more to come will be a handful too. If you're on a super tight budget an FX 6300 or something similar would be good, but if you can squeeze it get an i3 with hyperthreading or ideally any i5.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

for most games it is pretty good. one potentially better value though is the AMD FX6300 and a cheap motherboard.

ok so more cores the better so i could get a 6 core amd processor and be fine? with the right motherboard of course

Yeah, for a while. But the AMD lineup is very far behind Intel now. They'll bottleneck almost anything at this point. From a gamer perspective if you can afford a simple i5 with a decent motherboard, do it.

If you can afford it, get a quadcore whenever possible. The Pentium is good for "modern" games like league of legends etc. But for the newest AAA titles, I would suggest a quadcore i3-i5.... I built a pc for a friend and he loves his pentium :P Pentium and 750ti.... Runs league of legends, gmod, and pretty much any game he wants maxed out :P (Keeping in mind he doesn't play Unity, BF3/4/hardline, etc.)

No AMD FX processor can match these CPU's in games wheter you go with the i3 or i5 you get better gaming performance than AMD FX.

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |

yes, but that's about as high as you want to go on the GPU with this one.

Overclock it to 4.0ghz+
