Hello,

Has anyone had any experiences ordering from Cold Zero?  I am thinking of ordering a backplate for my video card and the only place I can find one for my particular card is at Cold Zero and I believe they are in Portugal.  I would be getting it shipped to Canada.

Thanks!

You're welcome spookyneo.  There are 5 MSI ones to choose from and I think they do custom stuff as well.  I posted a similar post on another forum and it seems to be legit and really quality stuff.  I think I am going to do it.

  • 1 month later...

I ordered it.

Necroing a thread here but i want to know what your experience was like? I want to order one and i live in EU so my experience should be at least as good as yours. I also have general question about this.

Will it hurt the cooling on the pcb? Can i and should i get thermal pads to put between the ram and backplate?

Backplate is nice, good quality.  I wanted it purely for aesthetics, it doesn't really serve any other purpose and it is acrylic.  My temps did go up about 4-5 degrees under load, but I also plastidipped the shroud which could have accounted for some of the increase in temps.  It went from 67/68 under load to 72/73-still great temps.  I overclocked my card but only 100 clock and 200 memory.  Overall good experience, I also got a backplate for my SoundBlaster Z too.

Are you sure thats because of the backplate change and not ambient temperature based? Seems quite a lot actually.

Does anyone know if using thermal pads with a backplate like that is safe?

I plastidipped and put the backplate on at the same time and that is what my temperatures were.  My room temperture remained the same.  To get the shroud off I had to lift the heatsink so it briefly lost contact with the chip.  Would that have affected the thermal paste? It was only for a second or 2. That's all I can think of.

Yeah you probably messed up the thermal paste. If you can find something cheap thats non conductive i suggest you reapply it.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just ordered a plate from them for my MSI 4G 980. (Style 5 with the red colored shield).

After tax and shipping it comes to about $44 (39 European money units).

I'm having it shipped to the US so I don't expect it for a couple weeks at least.

I'll post updates about the experience and and pics with the product on the card when it arrives.
