SLI?

Go to solution Solved by Najuno,

1440p and a 980 are a bit out of my current budget. But I'm considering 21:9 1080 eventually. You think a 970 will be good for a while?

A GTX970 is an awesome choice for 1080p :).

What would happen if I tried sli on my MSI Z97M-G43 motherboard. Would it even work? This motherboard has a 16x and 4x PCI 3.0 slot. I heard that SLI will not work on the 4x slot. Is this true?

Edit: would hyper sli work?

It wouldn't work.

To make SLI happen you need to have at least 2 PCIe 3.0 x8lanes.

i figured. I also heard of hyper sli. Would that work?

Never heard of it (just looked it up, but I didn't see anything where it was used recently/on recent cards).

The fact that I haven't heard of it does make me think it hasn't worked (on modern cards) in quite some time.

Okay thanks. I guess I'll just have to stick with a single card. (This was the only mATX z97 motherboard with a blue/black color scheme)

Seems like, but if you get a potent card like a GTX980 you can enjoy resolution with HIGH or ULTRA settings up to 1440p.

You could go for a mostly black board with SLI support: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-z87mextreme4

And then just get the blue from blue LEDs, blue RAM, blue cooler...

EDIT: *derp* nvm, I misread what you wrote -- I thought you hadn't bought the board yet.

i could but I also can't be arsed to replace my mobo. I have a 350d case and it's a pain to swap motherboards in. Also I don't feel like relicensing my oem os.

Ya ya, I misread what you wrote. I thought you were saying you didn't have the board yet, but you wanted it because of the color scheme.

You could also go with a 290/x and XFIRE when you need more power (please don't already have a 970, because then I'll just feel silly again :S).

oh yeah it would be ridiculous to choose the lesser board because of color scheme. Admittedly, I should have probably gone with a board with more support but I didnt think I would ever want to sli. I might switch to amd when thier new cards are released so I could crossfire those.

Crossfire r9 290s and r9 285s stutter quite badly On 16x/4x

Op what gpu do you have?
