Keep in mind though, that many laptop monitors have indirect support for variable refresh rate due to the vblank feature that was meant for power saving.

They have had it long before Gsync was a thing.

Desktop monitors do not have vblank, and requires hardware-dependent adaptive sync from the Displayport 1.2a standard. Freesync uses adaptive sync.

Wow...very informative, i didn't know that. So it probably better to just get a Gsync monitor then.
