AMD FX 8-Core Processor Black Edition

Go to solution Solved by ProGearUk,

I would definitely get the 8350 for your needs. I have very similar uses to you and the 8350 is very good for rendering in my experience because of all of those cores. Also the 6560ti would be a good choice as well because of CUDA for Adobe Programs and also because you can game on it.

So I am looking into Cpu's for rendering using Sony Vegas. Will the program be able to take advantage of the AMD FX 8 core Black Edition's 8 cores? I will also be playing games such as battle field (which can take advantage of 6 cores based off what I have heard) Minecraft (I know this isn't a very intensive game) and Grand Theft Auto 5 when it comes out. I will also be pairing it with a Nvidia gtx 660 ti. Also going with 16gb of RAm 1633 mhz.

I use an i3 2120. To put it only perspective last time i rendered a big 1080p file it took 30minutes, remember thats an i3. I did chores and stuff during that time so it didnt mattre, im about to get an fx8320 which will faster. Last time i checked the i3 matchs one of the fx6000 series cpus for rendering but i may be wrong.

A 3570k will be way better than an 8350 in Minecraft.

They'll both be nice in Vegas. Look at a 680/770 or something higher end if you're going to be doing a lot of rendering.

They will both be great in BF3, with many cycles to spare. I don't know about GTAV :P

Thank you both for your input. And in reply to Wats, I will be rendering one to twice a day usually in 720p. Although sometimes in 1080p. Also, can Minecraft even take advantage of all 8 cores? or is there a 4 core limit like most games?

I have an FX-6100 and minecraft only takes advantage of my 6th core, when i play its on 80%  and the other 5 are idling around 20%ish.

Really depends on the project, data quantity, and final file format, but for example, my baby at 5.1ghz renders 1.5 gb of final h.264 in 9 minutes from a bunch of fraps captures.

Codename: HighFlyer, specs:  CPU: i5 2500k cooled by a H70ish(2 rad)   Mobo: MSI MPower Z77   GPUs: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 1150 MHZ core, 3150 memory both   RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16G @1600mhz   SSD: ADATA Premier Pro sx900 / HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB/Samsung 1TB   Power supply: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold   Case Corsair Carbide 500R   5.4 ghz achieved on the good old 2500k, may it rest in peace. Current daily OC is 4.8 @1.41 v

Do the Adobe programs even take advantage of so many cores? Does Sony Vegas take advantage of them? Also, If i were to overclock it. Would I need liquid cooling?

They take advantage of as many cores as you have.  You can use GPU acceleration too which will speed things up quite a lot, as a GPU is essentially several hundred or thousands of very weak cores.  Adobe loves it.

Doesn't surprise me lol

Also I have the same chip and I love it, I think the Core i3 is underestimated a little too much.
