Only 720p Youtube video on Android 4.4.2?

I recently got myself a Lenovo Yoga 2 8 tablet. And fyi I'm totally new to android and this is my first tablet ever so I'm still learning how to navigate/use android ui. I noticed that with the YT app, I can only watch 720p videos, even when the videos are 1080p or higher. Is there any way to fix this without rooting etc?

I have but unfortunately it still doesn't work. I've even reset and reinstall the app but it still shows video option up to 720p only.

if your tablet isn't 1080p, you won't get 1080p video.

Yeah it's so weird. I cant watch it in the browser either as it will automatically open the yt app for playback.

possibly because the app recognizes your tablet as a 720p device

Any idea how to fix it? I've been reading reports somewhere that there are others experiencing the same problem but with different devices
