I wanted to build a pc for over a year now and finally got the funds. Now I don't know if I should start building or wait for the R9 3xx series since it is set to release in Q2.My budget would be $1500 maybe more but even if I did wait I probably wouldn't have enough to buy a 4k monitor.I would probably pick it up cyber monday. But should I wait to build the pc for R9 3xxx which i'd use for 1080 until i can get a 4k monitor or should i just build my pc now.

Thanks so much i'm new to the forum and would like to contribute As much as possible.I've been on the site without being a user so I'm pretty excited.

I would personally wait. 4k monitors are still relatively expensive, so just use a 1080p monitor when you do decide to build.

So basically

-Wait for r9 300 series

-Get 1080p monitor

-Buy 4k monitor later on

I'm looking for the best bang for the buck gaming performance I was a console gamer before.Never really enjoyed the experience.

Yeah pretty much. I didn't remember any 4k monitors being on sale during last black friday, but things could change in 10 months. I don't know if you are interested in waiting for Skylake as well though. I think it's rumored to come out later this year, or early next year.

best bang for the buck now would be an r9 290x it's a erm good card for the money and the highest single card amd make.

it would probably be on par with a 380 in terms of performance at a rough guess but at a much better price point.

for 1080p and 1440p you won't need anything else.

4k..well no single gpu can consistently max out AAA titles at 4k..nor can 2 cards.. so either way if 4k is your final goal you'll need to spend the same again as on your entire build on gpus

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

Laptop: MacBook Pro M1 512gb

I would get 1440 monitor and wait for 300 series.

Considered nvidia cards?

Nvidia was dishonest about there 970 and all that vram stuff so i'm leaning toward the 300 series.Regardless I would consider them if they release before the r9 3xx series.Do you think the performance will match up between the upcoming cards?

Yea I'm more focused to max out AAA titles max settings on a $1500 cad so I think I should go with the 290s but i'd like to see what others say I'm not considering 4k anymore sadly but if it becomes affordable and stable then I will upgrade so my best bet is to see what others have to say.

I think the question now is should I get 290s or wait for the 300 series just trying to max out AAA titles better then a console would do.

So should I wait for 3xx series as a graphics card although I won't be gaming at 4k for a while?

Just want my PC to last a while ,before I have to upgrade. The ability to play AAA games at playable frame rates is a must for atleast 2 years.

I dont think nvidia will release anything in that range soon so if you want, stick with 300 series.
