Hey everyone, so today I got my second EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX card. Popped it in and was ready to start gaming. First I wanted to benchmark the system so I ran 3d Mark and I noticed during the benchmark, louder than usual fan noise. I just thought it was due to a high stress load that I would'n typically see through gaming so I brushed it off. On to the Witcher 2 maxed out with ubersampling on. Everything worked fine for a few minutes then the loud fan noise returned, suddenly it sounded as if all the fans in my case (which may or may not be true) ramped up to full speed and my system turned off. Like, completely off. I waited a few minutes and powered back on and immediately disabled SLI. Before I continue here are my specs:

Motherboard: MSI 797 gaming 5

CPU: i5 4670k with light over clock to 4.3 ghz

Ram: G. Skillz Ripjaws 8gb

GPU: x2 EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX

PSU: Corsair CX 750M

And your typical ssd hdd combo

I'm wondering if the PSU is the culprit. I had been noticing some serious coil whine whenever I was running a game or in a menu where the FPS were high. So, is this PSU not powerful enough? I just watched Linus' compact SLI build where he used I believe two 780 Ti's and he said that the included 700W power supply in the case was enough to run them, I'm just kind of at a loss right now. Thanks!

yes it def the PSU

the CX is not made to run at with high load to the 12 volt rail

you may be drawing 660-700 watts and the PSU have to ramp up the fan to cool itself and the PSU went pop and shut down

So would something like the EVGA G2 850W be sufficient?

yes will be a bit overkill but good for your SLi setup
