Display port problem? maybe or bug?

So I'm using a mini displayport to vga adapter and every time I torn on my pc it makes the monitor go from its native resolution to 600 x 400.

Anyone else have this problem or no how to fix it?

It goes back to native resolution when i unplug the cable and reconnect it again but i dont want to damage the ports from every time I use the pc  :(

It is not a bug.

It may be a communication problem - VGA is analog signals and DisplayPort use digital signals... somewhere the adapter is confusing with the monitor's EDID on what signal is transmitting.  In your setup it may always go 600 x 400 (BIOs resolution) first until the Graphics Card drivers load when your PC's OS loads.  Instead of unplugging cable - while your PC is fully booted on Destop, try turning the monitor off for a few seconds then turning it back on.

Which end is connected to the monitor (DP or VGA) and what is your monitor's full native resolution?
