Best non reference GTX 980?

Pretty much what the title asks. Might be attempting to get a refund on my 970s in the coming days and the 980 is in my list of replacement candidates, so that when they age and new cards come out I can hopefully snag another one for a not so high price.

 

People say the Gigabyte G1 is the best for the 970, would the G1 be the best for the 980 as well?

Edit: And just to be sure, the G1 would fit in my case, right?

 

Edit2: Hmm. I'm getting different answers about which is the best... guess that means there are a few that are "the best", then at that point it would be all about preference? :P

People say the Gigabyte G1 is the best for the 970, would the G1 be the best for the 980 as well?

Technically the Kingpin is the best 980, but the best reasonably priced 980 would probably be between the G1 and EVGA Classified/FTW

I really like the EVGA 980's. Gigabyte has a great card but I like the asthetics of the EVGA cards better.

gigabyte has good warranty, not as good as evga but they are good, if not slow.

About the same out of the box as higher end EVGA models and overclocking is lottery dependent

What about coil whine? Would the G1 be known to have that by any chance, or is coil whine more of a "you got unlucky, RMA your card" type of scenario?

nah, the coil whine on windforce cards is there but not as common or as bad as people make it out to be

Yeah, unfortunately RMAs will not be done due to coil whine, since it's not a defect that prevents the card from being fully functional.
