So I got a Be Quiet! Silent Base 800 for christmas, and yesterday was the day I decided to change my case, So I uninstalled my old case and got everything out of it, Installed a new Dark Rock 3 Cooler (which is awful to install). And when I was done, I decided to boot it up. It shut down after a split second, this happened a few times. Then suddenly there was this really weird noise and smoke started coming out of my case. I didn't know what the source of the smoke was but it never happened again. Finally it booted, I got the famous error saying that I should select a proper boot device. So I was really discouraged at that point. So I went in to my BIOS, and It recognized my 1TB HDD, and my DVD thingy. My SSD was no where to be found. So I took the SSD out of there, placed it on a Samsung Clone Cable and tried plugging it in to my Dad's laptop, Nothing. My dad recently bought a SSD aswell, so I tried that one with the cable. Still nothing. So I was kinda happy this happened because it could mean it wasn't my SSD's fault, Right? I then installed windows on my HDD since I still have to be able to use my pc. But now I'm sitting here with my SSD on my desk, not knowing what to do.

I did select AHCI mode in my BIOS.

I also tried different SATA cables and ports.

Also tried different power connectors.

Specs:

ASROCK Z77 Fatal1ty Performance

i7-2600k @ stock speed.

Sapphire Toxic R9 280X

(not working) 120GB Samsung 840 SSD

1TB WD Green

Corsair CX750M

Sorry for any spelling errors or grammar mistakes. I wrote this in a hurry.

Thanks in advance.

I hope I don't get reported for spam,  because as of this moment I haven't a clue why your motherboard isn't recognizing SSDs, but.. If you saw smoke coming out of your PC, I would not recommend you even have it running.. Let alone using it.

Ye that's what my father said, but it could be that there was something between my fans or something. Since all my parts still work and I'm pretty sure the smoke wasnt coming out of the SSD.

Just out of curiosity, can you flash your bios and then try to connect an SSD?

Not that I'm aware of, no...

Maybe I overread it but have you tried connecting the SSD at your dads pc ?

Yes, And we also tried his SSD using the samsung cable. Neither of them worked, not even with the Samsung Magician software.

So you know the SSD isn't working but also your SATA ports aren't because your dads won't work with any cable at your PC and your SSD won't work in your dads PC with any cable?

My dad has a Laptop, so we didn't install the SSD in there. We used this cable http://i.imgur.com/9QAN3eI.jpg (didn't put it in as an image since it was huge)

But I used 3 different cables, in all the ports (6 total).

Strange, but I guess the SSD is dead

ASROCK Z77 Fatal1ty Performance.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20Z77%20Performance/?cat=Download&os=BIOS

Use CPU-Z to check your motherboard's BIOS version if you'd like. Download that, drop it onto a USB stick, and update your BISO. Do explain though. Does neither SSD work with the cloning cable? Does his SSD work inside of your build? Do neither SSDs work in your build but are fine on his laptop?

Update your BIOS and then try connecting your SSD.

My dad hasn't installed his SSD (don't ask me why it's been sitting in the box for a couple of months now). We never tried installing his SSD In my case, I guess I could do that. But let me install CPU-Z first. I'll edit this post and let you know.

So you said you tried your SSD on his cable going into his laptop, and it didn't work. Yet you tried his SSD and it didn't work either?
