470 vs. 960

Go to solution Solved by arnavvr,

I am building a cheap gaming PC. I have the opportunity to get a free GTX 470 from my brother, but I could also make room in the budget for a 960 instead. Should I get the 960? On a similar note, my brother also has an i3-2130 that he can give me. Should I use that, or pay for something better?

I would get the free GTX 470 now, and then get a R9 370X or 380X

Do this. Get the 470 right now. Then get the 380x. Uninstall Nvidia dirvers. Install hacked drivers that have Physx. Voila you have a 470 for Physx and Radeon for main work!

Lets all ripperoni in pepperoni

I have about $800 total, which includes a mouse, keyboard, monitor, desk, chair, but not Windows, because my Dad has connections with Microsoft. To use the i3 and the 960, my current plan has it at $770

i would go with what someone said earlier, I would use the 470 until the 300 series from AMD comes out in a few months

I was expecting OP to upgrade to a 3570K or 3770K, as for the Z board. As for the AIO, Intel's K chips are overclockable, so they can be pushed harder with better cooling.
