iPad 2 display issues

My sisters old iPad 2 (she bought a new mini due to the issue) doesn't seem to be displaying anything; there is no light or anything coming from the screen at all. However, when i connected it to my laptop iTunes recognised it and displayed a prompt saying that it needed to be reset (or something, can't really remember) and so i rest it from within iTunes but it still displayed nothing.

I'm not sure if it's an issue with the battery, or if the screen has died... Her explanation of it was that it ran out of charge and then when she went to charge it up it just wouldn't power on. It's out of warranty so having apple service it isn't an option. If iTunes even remotely recognised that the iPad was connected, would that not indicate that it was actually powered on but no display on the tablet itself... But then again why would the display suddenly die after running out of battery?

The reason i'm asking is just because if i can fix it, then its mine to keep. But to do that i need to know what the problem is.

Thanks in advance.

Her explanation looks very fishy. Either she had it fall or something but doesn't want to let you know, OR the screen died and she thought it ran out of charge when in fact it had broken.

It's very likely that any chance to fix it begins with popping it open, and it won't be easy. Once you manage that, post pictures and maybe we'll be able to help more. It might just be a severed connection, in which case a little glue should fix it.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

That was my initial thought, i just couldn't see how it would happen after just running out of battery... I'll ask her tomorrow and see if she did actually drop it, in which case i'll try and get it open and see the condition of the connection.

1st try a hard reset hold power and home until it restarts

2nd get a bright light and press the power or home button try and see if you can see anything on the screen sometimes the back lights can go.

Though usually a hard reset should work.

@Sauron

I left it to charge over night, now it's making a noise, i'm not sure what the noise represents whether it means it needs restoring etc. because there is no display...

That fact that it's making a noise, and iTunes is detecting it, would that most likely mean that it's just a display issue?

what kind of noise is it making? It is coming out of the speakers? I can't think of anything else since it shouldn't have any moving parts

As for the screen... honestly it could be either a severed connection, as I originally thought, OR possibly a defective unlock button (although the screen should light up for a moment when you plug it into the socket right?). Again, opening it up is probably the only way to fix it and also the onlyway to know for sure what the problem is.

Well if itunes detects it then its a display issue for sure. Maybe you can record the noise and upload it?

CPU: AMD FX 8350 | GPU: AMD R9 270 Windforce | MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 | RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB | Case: X Predator X1 |CPU COOLER: Hyper T4

NAZIS WILL RISE.

it's coming out of the speaker yes, it's just like one of apple's notification noises to signify somethings happening or needs to happen... The noise itself is like a, Bing, that goes off every so often. iTunes actually recognised it and allowed me to restore and activate it from within the application, so it was obviously happening on the iPad i just couldn't see it.

There's no light or anything that comes from the iPad at all, i only know that in the background it is powered on and seems to be working only there is no display. I'll order a tool kit to get it open and just have a look, if the connection seems to be fine then i'll just leave it as i'm not paying for a new screen.

Thanks for the help.
