Trying to create a bootable usb for ubuntu, but I don't have a flash drive handy, but i have a usb 3 external hdd

I partitioned off a 4 gb ntfs partition, but I can't use it too make a bootable drive.  It wont show up in roofus or ubootnetin

I can help with programming and hardware.

You can't use it because it's not a flash drive. It's a conventional HDD. No flash memory at all.
