Help me please Build in progress

Hi Im in the process of building my first gaming PC I have all the other details down but what i can't decide is whether to buy which of these graphics cards.

I need real reasons to buy one or the other as they are similarly priced and my mother board can support sli or crossfire when that comes up down the road. It will be almost all gaming and movies I'm just going to be playing games at around 1080p maxed out if I can.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Id recommend the R9 290x since it has 4 real Gb of Vram, It will probably last longer.

970's can use 3.5 GB RAM

1 week ago everyone would be saying 970. Go with the 970. 

 

The card still has the same awesome benchmarks as before. These guys are just anti fanboying.

even with the 3.5 gb issue the nvidia shadow play, adobe cuda accelleration, and the physx implementation will be the most notable advantages of the 970, amd havent really got the same level of integration and ease of use for similar features. so i would say 970 for those reasons

I'd go with the 290x. its cheaper than the 970 (in the uk) but not dramatically slower. they overclock well too, they're just more power hungry than nvidia cards.

Personally I have advised a friend to get a variant of the 290X. I liked the features of the 970 but the 3.5GB thing kinda made me do a roundabout. I mean its cooler and runs about the same with less power. But I can't safely say I can use the features I really wanted it to use in the future. (DSR) also because the 290X was almost a hundred dollars cheaper brand new and has a better cooling and power delivery system (MSI Lightning)

TL;DR I would go for the 290X esp if they're significantly cheaper where you live as well. If they're the same its a toss up for 1080/maybe 1440 gaming. 4k 290x or 980

Normally i'd suggest you to get the 970 (Since you're only on 1080p)

 

but... since your other option is a 290x the Lightning, my vote goes to the Lightning....

 

If it were me the only real reason to get the Lightning would be because its just soooo cool and beastly
