8gb ram will boost performance for daily tasks, 4gb will slow you down once you have a couple things running and a few tabs open in your browser. An ssd will increase pc boot and software loading times. A better gpu will allow you to run games at higher framerates or with better details. If your goal is performing well at daily tasks, I would recommend investing in an ssd and 8gb ram. If you're more focused on gaming, I'd invest in a R9 280 or 280x (or GTX 770) if you can afford it.

Desktop:     Core i7-9700K @ 5.1GHz all-core = ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate = 16GB HyperX Predator DDR4 @ 3600MHz = Asus ROG Strix 3060ti (non LHR) = Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD = ASUS PG279Q

Notebook:  Clevo P651RG-G = Core i7 6820HK = 16GB HyperX Impact DDR4 2133MHz = GTX 980M = 1080p IPS G-Sync = Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 SSD + Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD

Depends a lot on the type of games you'll be playing. If you're playing LoL and farmville, you'll be alright with a 750ti / r9 270 / etc... If you want to run some more demanding games you'll be thankful later if you invest in a 770 / 960 / r9 280x now.
