Hi guys, i have a computer which is around 3 years old, its a z77 motherboard running an i5 3570K @ 3.4Ghz and has a Radeon HD 7770 1GB, 8GB 1333Mhz RAM and a standard 7200 rpm hard drive. i use a 1080p display as well.

i usually play battlefield 4 at low settings and the frame rate can stay around 90 but will drop at the wrong times even down to 6fps and it is getting really bad now, i have resorted to playing it in windowed mode and re-sizing it to only half the screen.

i was looking to upgrade the GPU and was looking at the new nvidia GTX 960 but while i was looking at the prices the R9 280 came up and it was fairly cheap compared and the specs looked better

so my question is which GPU should i go for R9 280 or GTX 960?

but also should i really think about building a new system altogether?

thanks for any responses or answers :)

R9 280 and GTX960 are pretty similar in terms of performance.

The 960 just runs cooler and is more efficient.

And no, I wouldn't bother getting a new system as yours is just as good as modern systems +/- a few percent (a few percent, which is easily made up by overclocking).
