I built my new comp http://pcpartpicker.com/user/dartleg13/saved/pGKG3C and I need help OCing the CPU. I did some stock stress tests with prime95 (only changed memory fq to the rated 1600) and the temps are really high (in the 90s).

Is there a guide on OCing 4790k using the GENE VII mobo? (UEFI only not any software)?

How can I address the high temps issue ?

Thanks!

Don't use Prime95, it's not a good tester for haswell CPUs. I'd personally recommend Intel XTU or AIDA64

If your temps are too high then you'll need to lower the voltage. Also Prime95 pushes chips further than anything you would do with them. When I was stress testing my 4690k I was pushing 85-90ºc in Prime95 and 75ºc in Aida64, and in gaming I've never gone above 70ºc~.

Using Prime and changing only ram speed is problem there. Prime95 is known to raising voltages (reason for temp changing) when left to auto. Others will too but not so much. Sweetspot voltage for that CPU is 1.25V while max recommended is 1.35V and absolute max 1.4V. I'd say don't go over 85C temps while stress testing.

Update: I didn't go past 7ghz on 1.24 volts, temps seem to be fairly ok, 85 max when stress testing with Intel Extreme Tuning Util.

I was actually trying to find out if there's a comprehensive guide on the bios setting on the z97 rog boards. I've yet to find an OC guide on 4970k that covers other settings as well. If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thanks again!
