PSU Cable Sleeving (Help!)

Go to solution Solved by DIV1D3,

As said already, you can get a modular PSU, and then additional sleeved cables, but they are generally quite expensive for a whole kit (120 AUD for Corsair's Gen2 kits).

So, what I advise you look into, are some PSU extensions.

I got a PCCG Tarantula extension kit and they look awesome, and they were but only $40. Granted there is only two PCI-E 2+6 Pin connectors, all the rest should be covered.

I'd pass on manually sleeving the cables, might be cheaper, Idk, but the amount of time it'd take would not be very kind to me.

Hopefully you have some store that does sleeved cable extensions, PCCG is the only place I know of that does them as a distributor at such a low price.

Edit:

So the parts have already been bought right? If you do get the RM650 you'd still be able to use either extensions or a new set.

So a friend of mine is recruiting me to build him a PC. His budget is at 2000$ USD, ok, great. I began geeking out over the GALAX GTX 970 HOF, but he then told me he wanted a black and red theme. He also said he needed peripherals, two monitors, keyboard, mouse, and headset. I showed him some keyboards, and he said he likely the ones with the braided cables, because they last not only, but they also look great (I must agree)

If anybody wants to know, here is the link: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ICAnderson/saved/TK9Ff7

Note, I have many copies of Windows 8.1 which I will use myself. Friends are friends, right?

Anyway, he has about 16$ left over, and I was going to see if there is any way to sleeve the PCIe power cables from the PSU to make them look better. Im prepared for a hassle, I just want to know if this is possible, and if so, where I can find an informational video, or article, and the supplies to do so.

Thx, community!

You could buy a full modular PSU and later when you have money again buy sleeved cable kits from Corsair, otherwise its possible to sleeve cables on you own but you void the guarantee and its not as easy as you need special tools and lot of patients

CPU: Xeon 1230v3 - GPU: GTX 770  - SSD: 120GB 840 Evo - HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RAM: Ballistix 8GB - Case: CM N400 - PSU: CX 600M - Cooling: Cooler Master 212 Evo

Update Plans: Mini ITX this bitch

Looks good, though I'd honestly try and fit a 980 in there, and drop the CPU cooler down a bit, as well as picking out a couple of those drives.

You could do some more tweaking from this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($326.95 @ SuperBiiz)

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 93.3 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler  ($89.90 @ Newegg)

Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 7 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($169.79 @ SuperBiiz)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($184.99 @ Amazon)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($48.88 @ OutletPC)

Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 980 4GB STRIX Video Card  ($554.99 @ Amazon)

Case: NZXT H440 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($108.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer  ($13.98 @ OutletPC)

Monitor: Acer G227HQLbi 60Hz 21.5" Monitor  ($119.99 @ Micro Center)

Monitor: Acer G227HQLbi 60Hz 21.5" Monitor  ($119.99 @ Micro Center)

Keyboard: Cooler Master CM Storm QuickFire TK Wired Mini Keyboard  ($84.99 @ NCIX US)

Mouse: Corsair Sabre Wired Laser Mouse  ($59.99 @ NCIX US)

Other: Red Sleeved cable extensions ($40.00)

Total: $1923.43

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I took out the SSD and 320GB HDD, as well as knocking the motherboard and CPU cooler down a bit (the motherboard more-so), just not sure if he'd need the extra features of the Formula, so I'm just suggesting it and nor entirely recommending it.

Because you're getting a modular PSU for him (wise choice) a new set would probably be a nicer choice, but for a cheaper alternative look out for extensions, as they should be significantly less.

Yes, what you provided me, from australia (may take awhile to ship) is extensions, but I can make it work. I think im gonna keep the Corsair cooler and the Formula, because one of his main goals is for this thing to look like a beast...the thermal armor tho... #geekoutmoment

But the extra HDD was for a backup for the SSD, and then the 1TB drive for games or big files...

I'd try and find some other place to get extensions, PCCG shipping is expensive as is, overseas might not even be an option.

Also, that Nepton 240M is a Cooler Master CPU cooler, not a Corsair product.

Yeah sorry for taking them out, I was just trying to lower the cost down to get a 980 in there, the 970 is plenty enough for even Ultra 1440p gaming so it'll be alright for almost anything your friend will want to do.

Whoops, Cooler Master I meant. Derp.

I've tried looking for some cable kits but to no avail...do you know of any that will ship to New England in the US?

Probably Amazon and Newegg, though Amazon has a UK store anyways.

Hmmm, well I think the ones I got from PCCG were a score, but with shipping to Europe it'd be no where near worth the cost.

I'd think there should be a place that sells extensions at a decent price, I'd probably get some Corsair sleeved cable kit if I were you, only reason why I haven't got it is because of my peasant-like non-modular PSU...
