I dropped my hard drive a while back and it had some important files on it is there any way to get any files back

Are you able to see it when you plug it into your computer? There are applications out there that try and restore files, or worst case you can send it off to a professional.

Yes, probably thousands of dollars. However, if your data is worth that much, the option is there.

Yeah, that would be nice. Also, now you've got me thinking about backup solutions. I might start spending more on them, as if you lose critical data, a redundant backup solution would be cheaper.

it is a desktop hard drive and accidentaly got knocked of a high shelf

So you're saying you can't read it now? Have you tired or what?

 

I've dropped drives on concrete floors (from waist high) and was still able to read them and use them, not that I would recommend it but its happened.
