Hello,

So, since haswell and kepler is finally out there I've decided to upgrade my gaming rig.

This is what I've put up so far.

Asus Sabertooth Z87

Intel i7 4770K

Corsair Dominator Platinum 1886Mhz

Corsair AX860

Cooler Master HAF X

MSi GTX770 Lightning SLi

OCZ Vertex 4 512GB - games

Corsair Neutron GTX 240GB - programs

WD VelociRaptor 1TB - storage

My goal is not to drop below 60 FPS @ 1080p

Let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance.

4770k pointless for gaming, 4670k will do just fine.

Dominator Platinum RAM is pointless aswell, overpriced. SO is 1866, doesn't matter for a gaming PC, 1600 will do just fine.

OCZ makes horrible SSDs, go for a Samsung non-pro 500GB if you want your game on a SSD [Will only decrease loading times that are software related, will not improve FPS in any ways.]

Corsair Neutron is not a very good SSD. Samsung 840pro is what you are looking for if you want a nice SSD.

Velociraptor is pointless for storage. It's loud and hot, and used as a bad alternative to SSD/Caching. Get a WD Green for pure storage, or a blue / black or Seagate Barracuda if you want some programs on it.

Why no CPU cooler? You might to be able to overclock a little.

Thanks for the fast response.

Totally forgot about the cpu cooler. Any suggestions?

Depends on how crazy you want to go in terms of overclocking. But Haswell gets really hot, so perhaps something of the likes as a NH-D14 or a H100i/H110 would certainly not harm if you plan on pushing it past 4ghz.

If you don't plan on overclocking at the moment, a 212 evo will go just fine ^^

Oh and about the memory: 8-16gb will be plenty. 8 are fine for pure gaming.

Kingston / G.Skill and Mushkin make exellent memory for a decent price.

you should save in on the ssd and get SLI GTX 780 instead you could also cache your hard drive with your ssd to make the hard drive faster also how much ram are you going to get?

?

Single 780 would be fine aswell if playing at 1080 and less driver issues ^^

Or ya, drop the Vertex SSD, get a Black drive or a Barracuda, toss your games on there [no impact on fps at all], and spend more on your GPUs. By going with a 4670k over a 4770k [that will not be any better for gaming] you save another 100$, by chosing some less over priced memory you save some more, and you could probably fit two 780s in that budget, eventhough one would do fine already ;)

Something like this.

If that's too expensive:

Go with the G45 instead of the G65 board

Go with 8 GB of memory

Go with a non-pro 840 SSD.

Eventhen this build is severe overkill, but this seems to be about your budget, so that's actually a build you'll play on for a long time ;)

If you're only gaming on a single 1080P monitor, a single GTX770, GTX760 or hell even a single 660TI will be fine. If you want to go the AMD route then the 7950 is a decent bet.

As for the rest:

Asus Sabertooth Z87 - personally I would only go with the Sabertooth based on the aesthetics. There are equal boards for cheaper.

Intel i7 4770K - At the moment it's rather pointless for gaming however with the next generation consoles, hyper threading may be of use but I have my doubts. If you need to save money then got the 4670K route.

Corsair Dominator Platinum 1886Mhz - Pretty overkill. Any 1600Mhz C9 RAM will do. Platinum has its price because of its looks - not the performance.

Corsair AX860 - Single GPU system; 600w. SLI? 750 is fine. Have a look at some of the Silverstone Gold series - I've used a lower grade Strider Plus PSU and it's pretty good. My friend hasn't complained about it.

Cooler Master HAF X - personal choice.

OCZ Vertex 4 512GB - games - 512GB SSD for gaming? That's a bit crazy. You won't notice any performance difference in gaming from an SSD vs a mech HDD.

Corsair Neutron GTX 240GB - programs - Not a bad drive. Others to consider: OCZ Vector, Samsung 840 Pro, Sandisk Extreme. More here

WD VelociRaptor 1TB - storage - Personally I don't like those. The performance delta over say a WD Black or Seagate Barracuda in my opinion is too low to justify the price increase.

For 1080p, this will be plenty: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1bfxB

2 1TB's for raid 0. I'm assuming you want faster loading in games--if you just wanted performance, you should just get a single 2TB hdd since the raid 0 won't help with that.

Case is completely subjective. If you want to save money and you don't care for the window, this is a great case for its price: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/silverstone-case-ps08b
