Going to be building a new system this August and was planning on installing Windows 8. I've been looking at purchasing a Acer T272HL 27" touchscreen monitor. This system will be primarily for gaming and editing. If I don't go with a touchscreen monitor, I might as well stick with Windows 7. What are you guys' thoughts? Touchscreen? Or no touchscreen? This touchscreen monitor goes for about $700, so for that price I could get 3 decent non touchscreen displays.

The specs on this build will be:

i7 4770k

Asus Z87-Deluxe Motherboard

16gb Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM (2x8gb)

Samsung 840 series 250gb drive (OS and main programs)

3TB WD Caviar Green drive (Media)

Asus GTX 780 GeForce Graphics Card

CM M2 850W Modular Power Supply

Corsair H100i CPU Cooler

Fractal Design Define R4 Case w/ Window

I think the idea of having a 27" touchscreen monitor is bad ass, although I wonder if Windows 8 paired with a touch screen monitor is practical, considering the price.

Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks!

V

Touch screens are overpriced. Manufactures goes after the craze.

Beside, they are all stand up monitor... they need to be able to come close and over your keyboard like the Wacom Cintiq, to be practice, and needs digitize pen support.

You are better off getting a proper 27inch monitor, like the Dell U2713HM, which is cheaper if you wait for special or the same price, 2560x1440, fully adjustable stand, high build quality, and non glossy.

You can perfectly use Windows 8 with a keyboard and mouse. I am using, everyone at work (IT department) runs Win8. Everyone loves it (after passing the steep learning curve to know how everything works).

Hmmm, for the price of the Dell U2713HM I'd rather just stick with the touch screen. The touchscreen goes for $699 and the Dell goes for $649. Not to mention it's kind of bulky/ugly. What about the ASUS MX279H 27" IPS Display? This one retails for $399.99, is it any good?

Your touchscreen is only 1080p, and uses an entry level 6-bit IPS panel. 1080p on a 27inch isn't great.

While the U2713HM uses a true 8-bit panel, color processor and Look Up Table, and it comes with a manufacture pre-color calibrated sRGB profile with report to help you get started to get the best colors. Not to mention you also have in addition to the Acer monitor DisplayPort in addition and USB 3.0 Hub, and for sure better build quality.

You also have the ASUS PB278Q, a 2560x1440 monitor, similar monitor and specs (no pre-calibrated profile), but a bit cheaper in price.
